Everything you need to know to achieve a new year’s resolution

Going to the beach before dawn is one of my favourite things to do.

Firstly there is the sound of crashing waves but also a magical orange glow of what the day may bring.

Similarly the dawn of a new year offers many opportunities.

So today let’s wander down a virtual beach path and set new year’s resolutions for life-story projects

Dreaming of good new year’s resolutions

To start we must dream a life-story project dream that stretches, excites and perhaps scares us.

Maybe this dream is to write an autobiography this year?

Or help a loved one with their life story?

Next visualise this finished project and imagine sharing it with excited family and friends.

Set SMART goals

Once we set new year’s resolution dreams, let’s break them down into achievable goals or tasks.

For example, divide a dream into short-term goals for different quarters or months.

And then drill these down into weekly and daily goals.

Finally, check these goals are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely.

Power of a deadline

Next let’s set a deadline for our first goal.

And share it with supportive family and friends to keep us accountable and motivated.

What’s more, write it down and display at your desk, on the fridge or in your diary.

Final say: New year’s resolutions

The beginning of a new year is a magical time full of possibility.

So why not set new year resolutions for your autobiography, memoir, biography or life-story projects.

First brainstorm dreams, divide them into SMART goals and set a deadline.

Without delay, make this year the year to start and finish a life story.
